Deaths

MCLEAN, E Sybil, latterly of the St Margaret’s, Lowestoft band, died on 24th February aged 86, following a short illness. Her funeral will be on Tuesday 31st March at St Margaret’s, Lowestoft, Please contact chris.mclean@nhs.net for further information. [1118]

WATERFIELD, Philip’s Memorial Service will be held at St Mary’s Church, Denver, Norfolk on Wednesday 18th March 2026 at 2.30pm. General ringing after the service, whist his ashes are interred. HARRIS, Cdr William A (Bill) died on 1st February after a long battle with asbestosis. In recent years Bill had been ringing regularly at Catherington, and had a long association with Portsmouth Cathedral and East Meon. Bill’s funeral will be on Tuesday 24th March at The Sustainability Centre, Droxford Rd, East Meon, GU32 1HR at 11.30, with refreshments afterwards at The Hampshire Hog (formerly The Hog’s Lodge) London Road, Waterlooville PO8 0QD. HARTLEY, Alan E, of Redditch, Worcestershire, passed away on 27th January 2026 aged 89. His funeral will be on Wednesday 4th March at 11am at Tanworth in Arden church, followed by the wake at Tanworth in Arden Village Hall.  Family flowers only. GALLIENNE, Peter, passed away on 30th January aged 81. He was a Tower Captain at Forest, Guernsey and a faithful member of the Vale evening band for many years. [1115]

SALMON, Gwilym George, of New Zealand and formerly of Wells, passed away on 10th February 2026. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Master of the Wells bellringers for many years and his unfailing support and membership of the Royal Society of College Youths for 70 years.  Gwilym Salmon aged 96, died of frailty of old age on the 10th February 2026 at home in Wells. His funeral will be on Wednesday 4th March at 12noon at St Cuthbert’s Church in Wells.  The Wake, following Crematorium at Shepton Mallet is at The Crown Hotel, Market Place, Wells. Meetings on Saturday March 14

GUILDFORD Diocesan Guild AGM, Saturday 14th March 2026 at Christ Church, Epsom Common (Christ Church Road, KT19 8NE). The Guild’s 6-bell striking competition is being held between 11am-1pm, then there will be a short break before the meeting at 1.30pm. Due to other bookings in the hall, refreshments will be available in the church before the meeting. There will be ringing at St Giles, Ashtead after the meeting until 3:30pm.
